How To Properly Carry Out Tennis Court Maintenance

By Judy Sullivan

Tennis court maintenance will actually depend on the type of courts that a person will have to take care of. Normally, the courts are made of hard surfaces. It can be made out of cement, asphalt, grass, or clay. There is an appropriate width and length for the courts, as well as the height for the net used in every game.

Maintaining each of these courts is not difficult. As long as the person knows the right advice to follow and the right methods to execute, then this task should not be difficult. The person should be able to keep the said surface free of debris. It should be easy to keep it clean and usable at all times.

There should be no loose pebbles or rocks on the said courts too. This is because these loose pebbles or rocks will just create cracks or divots on these hard surfaces. If there is even a minor crack on the courts, this will impair ball movements, increase damage to the courts, or trip the players.

These cracks, if there are any, should be repaired as soon as possible. One has to apply acrylic coating into these cracks to prevent further damage. Also, it is a must to ensure that everyone who steps onto the courts are wearing non-marking soles. This will prevent marks and scuffs from being inflicted to the surface.

The repeat lines should be well cared for as well. It should be as clear as possible. The blurred lines in the courts will just cause blunder in the decision both the players and judge or referee can make, especially with regards to the boundaries for every play. This will have a big impact on every game.

If the person is using the clay courts, then make sure that it is raked with lute-scarifier on a regular basis. This should help in loosening and leveling the clay since it can help remove those loose granules. The said tool will simply float over the surface, its concave blade smoothing the surface out. Its drag brush provides benefits too.

The person may also make use of the line scrub brushes for removing anything that has caked the lines. This way, the lines will become clearer. The person may also make use of the rollers as the final component that will keep the surface compact. It is also recommended to water the courts before any repair to keep the clay moist, preventing further cracking.

There are instances when grass courts are necessary for players. However, one should know that the grass courts are quite difficult to maintain. The person has to be aware of it from the moment the grasses has been planted up until the end of time. The grasses should be properly cultivated, ensuring that it grows evenly and smoothly.

The grass courts cannot be used immediately after installation. The weeds need to gain depth first before it can be used in any match. The tennis court maintenance done on the grass courts will have to be meticulous so be prepared.
